Smart Cape Access Project for the City of Cape Town

The award-winning (winner of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Award 2003) Smart Cape is a Public Library Access Point Solution developed by the City of Cape Town's e-Governance department. Lead-IT staff are currently contracted to the City of Cape Town to lead this development.

The project involved the rollout of PCs on an open source platform, to all 97 public libraries within the City Of Cape Town. The system provides free internet access, email and office applications for the citizens of Cape Town.

Prehmis Project for the City of Cape Town

The Prehmis system is developed by the City of Cape Town's e-Governance department. Lead-IT staff are currently contracted to the City of Cape Town to work on this project.

The Prehmis system (Patient Record and Health Management Information System) is an Electronic Patient Record system developed using Open Standards and purely Open Source software. It is currently in use in all 100 clinics (Primary Health Care) managed by the City of Cape Town in combination with an Open Source desktop.

LeadIT in Vredesvallei for ERAP

LeadIT was in Vredesvallei over this last weekend to begin with the first of the pilot sites for the IDT and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.

It was an interesting visit to our first site, a community who will embrace this oppotunity we are sure. The centre is not yet complete, but looks very promising- it will compromise of six public access machines, four dual purpose departmental stations and the administrator station. There is also a meeting room where the community forum can do anything from normal meetings to holding training sessions for the community.

Vredesvallei is a part of the Riemvasmaak area 20km odd downriver of Augrabies Falls. The community of roughly 900 people may have a shortage of economic stimulus, but seem to be rich in spirit. We at LeadIT are excited to get back up there to complete the installation and training of the community forum so the centre can become fully operational. The initial launch is to be held on the 16th of September.
